a critical leadership role within our organization, ensuring both the integrity of our day-to-day financial operations and
providing clear financial insight to support company performance.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller will serve as the senior accounting leader for Wellington Implement, responsible for the accuracy, integrity and
efficiency of all financial operations. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical accounting expertise, operational
discipline and the ability to manage a multi-location business.
The Controller will lead day-to-day accounting functions, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal
controls and provide clear financial visibility to the CEO and leadership team. This role requires sound judgment, business awareness
and the confidence to speak up when something doesn’t add up.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, inventory and floorplan financing.
- Ensure equipment settlements, flooring transactions and mfg. programs are processed accurately and on time.
- Lead monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes with a high level of accuracy and consistency.
- Prepare and deliver timely financial statements and supporting reports to leadership.
- Maintain and continuously improve internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure GAAP compliance.
- Coordinate audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting with external partners.
- Oversee payroll processes in coordination with HR, stepping in when needed.
Team Leadership & Process Management
- Lead, develop and hold accountable the accounting team across multiple locations.
- Establish clear processes, expectations and accountability within the department.
- Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements to increase accuracy and speed.
- Ensure consistency of financial practices across all dealership locations.
Financial Oversight & Support
- Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring department and location leaders build accurate, well-supported
- budgets and holding them accountable for thoughtful, realistic assumptions.
- Prepare and deliver ongoing MTD and YTD budget-to-actual reporting, partnering with leaders to diagnose variances and implement operational changes or budget adjustments as needed.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital and key financial indicators.
- Provide clear, practical financial insights to the CEO and leadership team to support decision-making.
- Assist with lender reporting and maintain basic banking relationships as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
- CPA or CMA preferred but not required if experience is strong.
- 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
- Proven experience managing full-cycle accounting in a multi-location or operationally complex business.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting and internal controls.
- Experience in equipment dealership, manufacturing, distribution or similar inventory-heavy environment strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and enforce accountability.
